Membership

How do I apply for membership? What are the procedures?
  1. Please contact LINK-J.
  2. After we receive your application, we will notify you of the schedule for membership orientation and facility guidance.
  3. On the day of the orientation and guidance, please come to the reception desk on the third floor of Nihonbashi Life Science Building with your personal identification.
  4. After the orientation and guidance, we will give you a membership card if you agree to our objectives, rules, etc.
    (This will complete the provisional registration.)
  5. Please pay your initial fee and annual membership fee at a later date (Special Members A and B will receive a billing statement. Special Members C will pay the fees with a credit card.
  6. Your membership registration is complete when we have received your initial fee and annual membership fee.
Are there any documents that I will need to submit for the membership application
Please submit the following document(s) when you come to our office in Nihonbashi.
We will also give you a tour of the facilities at your request.

If you are a corporate/organizational member, please present the Certificate of All Matters, a brochure, website, and/or business card.
If you are an individual member, please present your driver’s license, student ID card, or employee ID card.
What services are available to members?
Members can participate in the various events and programs that we offer and use our communication lounges.
As common benefits, Special Members A, B, and C receive communication support, including the announcement, introduction, etc. of events organized by members to other members. The use of shared offices is also available upon application (monthly fees are charged separately).
Special Members A and B can enjoy the privately reserved use of conference rooms and lounges and the use of temporary working rooms at members’ prices. The names of their companies or organizations are posted on the LINK-J website (not available to Special Members C).
Are there any services available to non-members?
We offer events, programs, etc. in which non-members can also participate.

Is one-day membership available?
There is no membership for one day only.
If an organization with its own members (an association, academic society, etc.) becomes a LINK-J member, will the members of such an organization also be considered to be LINK-J members?
If an organization such as an academic society or association becomes a LINK-J member, the members of the organization are not considered to be LINK-J members.
Only those associations or organizations that have applied for membership become LINK-J members themselves.
Is what circumstances do we use the membership card? Can we get two or more membership cards?
You will present your membership card when you unlock security for the communication lounges.
Up to five people can use one card.
Each Special Member A receives 10 membership cards, each Special Member B receives five membership cards, and each Special Member C receives 1 membership card at the time of member registration.
Up to 10 additional cards for a Special Member A and up to five additional cards for a Special Member B are available for a fee.
Can someone who is not Japanese and does not speak Japanese become a member? Are you able to communicate with such a member in English?
Yes. Most events and programs are carried out in Japanese, but non-Japanese members may participate in them.
Please ask for staff members of LINK-J who are able to speak English.

Services available to members

Conference Rooms, Communication Lounges, Temporary Working Rooms, and Shared Offices
Can an individual member use these facilities?
The reserved exclusive use of conference rooms and communication lounges and the use of temporary working rooms are available only to Special Members A and B.
The temporary use of communication lounges and the use of shared offices (for a separate monthly fee) are also available to Special Members C.
How do we reserve and use these rooms?
Reserve the exclusive use of conference rooms or communication lounges on our online system.
If you request the use of these rooms when you register your membership, we will issue an ID after you submit an application so that you can make a reservation for yourself.
You must submit a separate application for a temporary working room. Please contact Nihonbashi Life Science Business Bases.

For what types of events and conferences can you use the facilities? Can you use them for a company’s internal meetings?
The facilities are intended exclusively for life science related use.
As a general rule, the facilities may not be used for a company’s internal meetings, recruitment activities, etc. that are not related to life science.
We may ask you not to use our facilities for a purpose that does not align with our intentions.
How many times can we use the facilities ?
Each member can use the conference rooms for up to 1,000 hours per year, exclusively use the communication lounges up to 50 times per year, and use the temporary working rooms up to 80 days per year.
Are the facilities available to a member of a LINK-J member organization (an association, academic society, etc.) or an affiliate or group company of a LINK-J member organization?
Our facilities are available to parties that have become LINK-J members themselves, who make reservations or organize events.
Do not let others use the facilities even if they are members, affiliates, group companies, etc. of the same association, academic society, etc.
Is it possible to hold events that charge entry fees?
You may do so, but the party making the reservation and organizing such an event will be in charge of the event management, such as collecting the entry fees.
LINK-J will not be responsible for such event management.
Is it possible to hold a sales event?
We do not allow any events that are attended by an unspecified large number of people.
Are café or catering services available?
We can refer you to various catering companies for party dishes, box lunches, etc. to suit your event.
Feel free to make an inquiry with us. At the members-only area in the communication lounges on the 10th floor of Nihonbashi Life Science Building, we have prepared free coffee, beverages, nuts, and snacks that are available for 100 yen.
A vending machine is located on each floor, which can be used between your meetings.
Can we use your lounges as study rooms for long periods of time?
The lounges are intended to promote open innovation and communication among the members. Please do not use them for long periods of time for study, etc.
Is Wi-Fi available?
Wi-Fi is available in Nihonbashi Life Science Hub and on the 2nd, 3rd and 10th floors of Nihonbashi Life Science Building (communication lounges). Please ask a security key at the reception desk.
Events and Programs
What types of events and programs are offered? Can a non-member participate? What are the participation fees?
The events and programs are intended to promote open innovation in Nihonbashi, and many of them are also offered to non-members. Participation fees, participation limits, etc. vary depending on the event or program. See the LINK-J website for details.

Can you provide support for events organized by LINK-J members themselves such as by making announcements to other members and attracting visitors?
We provide LINK-J members with support for events and programs on condition that those are to promote open innovation, the support includes announcing such events/programs to other members by the distribution of e-mail messages, posts on Facebook and/or on our website, the use of digital signage, etc.
Supporters
How can I meet with a LINK-J supporter for a discussion?
Ask LINK-J and we will check with the LINK-J supporter of your request. Please understand in advance that not all requests may be able to be met.
You may be able to meet with the supporter of your request by participating in an event or program attended by the supporter.
Can you refer me to individual members, corporate groups, universities, etc.?
Please contact LINK-J in each case. Please understand in advance that not all requests may be able to be met.
What types of consultations can you provide?
LINK-J Supporters are experts with experience establishing businesses, and with extensive knowledge in diverse fields such as research and development, management, law, and finance.
Please contact LINK-J and we will refer you to an appropriate supporter.
Every Friday we hold “Out of Box Counseling” in the communication lounge on the 10th floor, at which members can casually discuss their research or ideas about pharmaceutical or health care services. We invite you to join us there.
Do we appoint our own supporter? Or does LINK-J recommend a supporter for us?
It is undertaken on a case-by-case basis. You may appoint a supporter of your choice or the secretariat will recommend a supporter for you, depending on what you would like to discuss.

Membership fees

What are the initial fee and the annual membership fee?
The fees vary depending on the type of membership. You can find the details on the following page.

How and when do you pay the initial fee and the annual membership fee?
[ Special Members A and B (corporate members) ]
We will send you a billing statement around the 15th of the month following your membership registration. Please submit your payment by the deadline after you receive the billing statement.
For the annual membership fee, we will send you a billing statement in February or March every year. Please submit your payment by the deadline.

[ Special Member C (individual members) ]
About one week after your membership registration, we will send a message to your registered e-mail address detailing the website where you can pay the fees with a credit card. Please process the payment yourself by the deadline.
Subsequent annual membership fees will be automatically charged to your credit card in March every year.

How and when do you pay the fees to use the conference rooms and other facilities?
A billing statement for the fees to be charged for the period between the 21st of every month and the 20th of the following month is issued and sent on the first day of the month.
Please make your payment by the last day of the month when the invoice arrives.
e.g.
You used a conference room on July 10th. The billing statement is sent on August 1st. Your payment is due by August 31st.
You used a conference room on July 22nd. The billing statement is sent on September 1st. Your payment is due by September 30th.
Can you issue a written estimate and receipt?
Yes. Please contact LINK-J for matters concerning the initial fee and annual membership fees.

Can you please provide us with the bank account number to which we should transfer our payments?
We will provide the information on the bank account to which you should transfer your payments in advance, including the account name and number.
