Facilitating open innovation and personnel exchanges in life science between Japan and France
On June 19, 2017 in San Diego, California USA, Life Science Innovation Network Japan, Inc. (chairman of the board: Hideyuki Okano; hereinafter "LINK-J") and Eurobiomed (representative: Xavier Tabary; hereinafter "EBM") signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Japanese-French cooperation in the creation of innovations in life science. LINK-J runs a platform for creating new industries in life science, while EBM is a French life science organization.

After signing the MOU, LINK-J and EBM will cooperate for the following five years in supporting commercialization and industrialization in life science between the two countries and facilitating the creation of new industries by means of open innovation through efforts such as providing mutual services to members, exchanging personnel and information and running programs in collaborative efforts. The recent signing of the MOU is attributable to the intermediacy of Biocom, a San Diego-based life science organization with which LINK-J concluded an MOU in June last year. The signing of the MOU took place at the head office of Biocom attended by Mr. Joseph D. Panetta, president and CEO of Biocom. As the memorable first opportunity for exchange, volunteers from LINK-J and Biocom are scheduled to visit EBM and other life science organizations in locations including Marseille for five days from October 30 to November 3, 2017.
Based in Marseille, EBM is a life science organization that operates in Southern France. Since its foundation in 2009, EBM has supported its member companies and research institutes in efforts such as innovations, finance and development and the achievement of strategic and operational goals. EBM has more than 260 affiliated members including nearly 220 corporations (as of July 2017).
The recent global partnership is the third of its kind for LINK-J following those with the University of California San Diego (UCSan Diego) and Biocom. LINK-J will continue its efforts to revitalize Japanese life science innovations by facilitating domestic and international partnerships in life science with life science organizations and universities and research institutes.
