VC BAR #14 "The next step to create global success stories originating from Japan and return of these best practices to Japanese society." was held on Dec 11

On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, we held the 14th VC BAR at the GLOBAL LIFESCIENCE HUB Lounge, inviting LINK-J special member VCs and CVCs. (Organizer: LINK-J)
The purpose of this event is to promote interaction between LINK-J special member VCs and CVCs.

At the beginning of the event, we invited Dr. Peter Fong, President and Partner of RTW Investments, an US-based hedge fund that invests in the life sciences field, as a guest and he introduced his company.
"RTW is a life sciences investment and innovation firm dedicated to solving the most challenging, unmet patient needs. Our full lifecycle expertise ensures we can support both science and business at every stage. We originate companies, fuel growth, and nurture the most promising science and medicine. RTW is roughly 7B$ AUM and HQ in NYC with London and Shanghai offices".

After the presentation, there was also an active Q&A session with the participants.

Afterwards, Dr. Azusa Shiohara, Principal of The University of Tokyo Edge Capital Partners (UTEC), gave a talk on the topic of "The next step to create global success stories originating from Japan and giving back to Japanese society." She introduced the efforts of central government ministries and agencies to strengthen the drug discovery venture ecosystem and the activities of Incubate Coalition Japan, and then engaged in group work with the participants.
During the group work, participants shared their opinions on the challenges and difficulties they face in creating success stories and giving back to Japanese society, as well as the support and improvement plans they would like to see in the future.
