LINK-J, in close collaboration with University of California San Diego (UC San Diego), will host a special symposium titled “Digital Technologies for Life Science Innovation” on May 27, 2022.

Franklin Antonio Hall, a brand-new engineering research and education facility at UC San Diego, is a dynamic ecosystem that is home to over 10 “Collaboratories for the Digital Future.” A “Collaboratory” is a large, open research laboratory that brings together an interdisciplinary group of professors, students, and industry partners working toward the common goal. Co-location helps the investigators find impactful, relevant research directions. Co-location also accelerates the translation of cutting-edge knowledge and advances into solutions for the public good for our global 21st-Century digital society.

After an opening overview of the Collaboratories for the Digital Future in the context of life science innovation, the symposium features two experts from research collaboratories at US San Diego – one expert on “Precision Genomics” and one on “Engineered Natural Intelligence.” The symposium also includes an expert from Osaka University, a strategic research partner in Japan.

Following the technical presentations, an expert panel will discuss the value that international acceleration programs can bring to Japanese life science startups that are aiming to access global markets. This session will highlight how the UC San Diego Institute for the Global Entrepreneur, located in Franklin Antonio Hall and tasked to accelerate the commercialization of research results generated on campus, can help prepare Japanese startups to break into the U.S. and other markets using its experiences and network of entrepreneurial professionals.

This is the first event that LINK-J and UC San Diego will host in the hybrid format, since the last in-person special symposium in January 2020 and several joint webinars in 2021.
