第28回LINK-J オンライン・ネットワーキング・トーク
5月に開催した「日英ライフサイエンスセミナー Vol.1」では、いち早くポストコロナに舵を切った英国におけるライフサイエンスエコシステムの現状報告と、日本とのコラボレーション強化に関するパネルディスカッションを行いました。300名を超えるご登録を頂き、日英間の連携等における関心の高さが改めて裏付けられた機会となりました。事後アンケートの中で「より科学的な最新情報を聴いてみたい」というご意見が多く寄せられたため、第２弾、更には第3弾を企画し、最新のサイエンスビジネスに焦点を充てたセッションを計画するに至りました。本編では、「AI創薬」と「プロセス最適化」をテーマとし、グローバル市場で急成長している2社の英国企業にプレゼンテーションを依頼致しました。
AI創薬分野からは、３次元的な分子静電学を利用した化学構造の特定から生物学的な活性を予測するソフトウェアを提供するCresset社が登壇します。同社は同時に解析サービスに関する事業も強化させており、製薬企業等とのアライアンス数も急激に伸ばしています。最近では、製薬企業内の研究者同士のコミュニケーションも活性化させるメリットを有するDMTAツールである「Torx」も提供をはじめ、事業パートナーを通じた日本市場における紹介案件も増えております。
プロセス最適化は、創薬における化合物の新規合成経路の検討や、合成プロセスを根本から見直すノウハウが必要な分野です。特にGreen chemistryと称される環境に配慮を行った溶媒や触媒等に置き換える新概念は、SDGs的な観点からも今後検討や採用が必須となる分野のひとつです。本編では、この分野を世界的にリードするCatSci社からの最新技術やケーススタディの紹介をお願いしています。CatSci社は、英国のメガファーマに所属していたケミストが立ち上げた企業で、高度な化学的知識に裏付けられたプロセス最適化を提供しており、今後日本戦略を更に強化させる方針を打ち出しています。
また、９月には既に第３弾を行うことを決定しており、テーマは再生医療・細胞治療・オルガノイドを予定しています。全シリーズは、LINK-Jサポーターであり、英国在住のOxentiaシニアコンサルタント（兼Biospire代表取締役）の松永昌之氏がモデレーターを務めます。

Dr David Bardsley – Commercial Director of Cresset/Torx
As Commercial Director David heads up the Sales and Marketing team. Through his global role and direct interactions with people across industry and academia, he is always seeking ways to serve our customers better. His fundamental rule is to listen to the customer in order to discover and understand their needs. David has extensive commercial experience with software and technology solutions in the scientific market. Prior to Cresset, David was responsible for business development and strategic commercial growth, with Symyx Technologies and CambridgeSoft. David has a PhD and BSc in Microbiology from the University of Wales, Cardiff.
Dr João Madeira do Ó – Head of Business Development for Europe of CatSci
Joao completed his MPharm at the University of Lisbon in 2011, before going on to receive his PhD from the University of Nottingham in 2016. Joao began his career as a pharmacist, working in both Portugal and in the UK. Upon completion of his PhD, he worked as an International Business Development Manager for Inpharmation, a world-leading consultancy, specialising in forecasting, market research, international reference pricing and market access for the pharmaceutical industry. In 2019, Joao joined CatSci as a Head of Business Development for Europe. Joao plays an integral role in identifying and developing new business opportunities, while liaising with current customers at every stage of their project.

Masashi has a background in biomedical and life sciences and specialises in international business development and strategic network building. Masashi is an active figure in the Japanese innovation ecosystem; he is an advisor for MEDISO, the Medical Innovation Support Office, a Japanese government funded programme supporting medical start-ups; and works closely with Link-J, the Life Sciences Innovation Network Japan. Masashi is passionate about promoting collaboration between UK and Japanese start-ups and investors, unlocking the commercialisation potential of cutting-edge science and technology research.
